This worksheet aligns with the new Core Arts Standards for Music. This activity tasks students with examining both the technical and expressive elements in their concert music. Students are then asked to reflect on how those technical and expressive elements are used to help convey the composers intent. This is an excellent worksheet to get students thinking about how and why composers use specific musical elements. Students also develop an enhanced understanding as to the importance of playing more than just the notes on the page. This worksheet can be used at any level, it is only as complicated as the concert music selected. This worksheet would even work well in a music composition or music appreciation class working on listening skills. This is also something that can be left as substitute plans as well.
