It's one thing to listen to our favourite songs, but it's another to be able to understand and hear different elements of the music within the song. Here is a template for students to fill out as you actively listen to music and learn to appreciate it's inwards.
Students should have prior knowledge and understand elements such as tempo, dynamics, and articulation (i.e. largo, andante, etc.) in order to fill out this handout. They will be asked, i.e. 'What tempo marking would you give this piece?", and have to circle what they believe is most appropriate. Other sections allow students to use their own words to describe the music.
I use this template weekly in my classroom. It is very student friendly! Students keep all their music appreciation handouts in their 'Music Appreciation' duotangs.
