Making the Flashcards
1. Print on A4 copy paper
2. Fold along the line
3. Glue the sides together
Using the Flashcards
1. Ask questions like:
a. Which clef is this note on?
b. Is note sitting on a line or in a space?
c. Which line or space is this note sitting on?
d. Is the stem up behind or down in front?
e. What is the lettername of this note?
2. Play games like:
a. Flashcards – quick naming of notes
b. Sorting games:
i. Sort flashcards into line notes or space notes
ii. Sort according to stem direction
iii. Sort according to clef
iv. Sorting according to ascending or descending pitch
c. Relation (Interval) games:
i. Find that note that is the same as this note
ii. Find the note that is one step (or a 2nd) higher than this note
iii. Find the note that is one skip (or a 3rd) lower than this note
d. Matching games: (some games may require 2 sets of flashcards)
• Mix the cards and turn them over, students will have use get a pair of the same flashcards.
ii. Pair up:
• Teacher calls out a lettername, and students to find a card that matches.
• Teacher describes a note by its clef, stem direction, position, and
student to find the card that matches the description.
