This lesson was done in a 45 minute period with 1st and 2nd grade students. Students were shown the attached graphic score I created. The students then performed my score on the percussion instruments while reading the graphic notation. Students in small groups then composed and notated their own graphic scores using percussion instruments. When the were finished they performed their work for their class. We are lucky to have a large selection of percussion instruments for the children to choose from, but this lesson could be replicated using body percussion (hand claps, clicks, knee slap, etc).
