This is a lesson about 10 different musical genres. I like to begin the class with some chit-chat about music, who their favorites are etc, then transition into talks about genre. Once I think they understand genre, I tell them that we are going to be listening to some music and I want to know what they think, with one being terrible and five being excellent. There are 10 genres to talk about and each one has an information slide and an example slide. Go over the information about what defines each genre, and then let them listen to a little bit of the example on the next slide. I find about 60 seconds to be sufficient. Anyway, after I play each example, I try to get the class talking about what they think. If there is still time at the end, I like to play some of my own music and see if they can figure out the genre. If you found this lesson useful, be sure to check out the others at ESL In Asia
. Good luck!
