Music Listening Journals are a great way for students to be able to express how they feel, what they hear, and to analyze pieces of music. Students absorb music differently, so the most effective way to reflect new music that is introduced is to keep a journal.
The journals include:
•A cover page that can be colored and designed by each student.
•Coloring pages of each instrument.
•Journal pages for different music pieces that reflect how each student feels, what they hear, tempos heard, and what they liked/disliked about the music.
•A Teacher’s Guide that explains what to ask the students, and the YouTube video links for each piece of music.
Remember: All students will analyze the music differently so there are no wrong answers. Encourage the students to share their journal reflections with the class.
Put the journals together by simply stapling the pages together, or use a 3 hole paper puncher and assemble into a binder.
