PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A bestseller. This is a great method for teaching guitar to 5th thru 8th graders in the music classroom or a guitar club. This product has 2 files: one is the teacher's guide, the other is a handout for students so it is easy for you to copy a booklet for them.

I've taught guitar to older elementary children for several years and have developed this plan along the way. This is the method I use in my after-school Guitar Club for 5th graders.

This resource has 25 folk songs with guitar charts and fret diagrams to show how to play the chords. Also has some ideas for a mini-concert – which I always do. And ideas for how to help students obtain a guitar (I don't provide them).

Chords are introduced slowly. Only these chords are needed to play all the songs:
G, D7, C, G7, D, A7 and Em.
This unit does not teach reading notes on the guitar, only playing chords, which is a great way to get kids interested in playing and get them started.

These are the songs included in this mini-course:
1. Are You Sleeping?
2. Hokey Pokey
3. Polly Wolly Doodle
4. It Ain't Gonna Rain
5. Miss Lucy Had a Baby
6. She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain
7. Down by the Bay
8. Row, Row, Row Your Boat
9. He's Got the Whole World
10. Clementine
11. The Farmer in the Dell
12. Oh Susanna
13. Hush Little Baby
14. Mary Had a Little Lamb
15. Skip to My Lou
16. Shortenin' Bread
17. Threw it Out the Window
18. Buffalo Gals
19. Frog Went a Courtin'
20. Camptown Races
21. This Old Man
22. Happy Birthday
23. Bingo
24. Michael Row the Boat Ashore
25. This Little Light of Mine

I always make sure my 2nd graders learn all these folk songs and more, then later when I use them with various instruments (recorders, harmonica, handbells, etc.) they already know the tunes.

Children love to play instruments! You might also be interested in my products:
