I am so excited to share this product with you. Not only is it a fun way for students to practice their rhythmic values, it is also a cross-curricular activity to incorporate math and art into the music classroom. These work great as a whole-class activity, a "finished early" worksheet, and in centers and stations. And what's more? It's so easy, even a non-music sub would be able to do this with ease!
Check out these adorable coloring pages. Each page features a color by code image for students to fill in. Within each space in the image is a rhythm addition problem. Students must solve the math problem to figure out what color to use in that space. Rhythms are all in standard notation, and include a pair of eighth notes, quarter note, half note, dotted half note, whole note, quarter rest, half rest, and whole rest.
Need to differentiate? No problem! I've supplied two versions of each page. One has a key at the top for students to use that reminds them how many beats each symbol gets. The other leaves the chart blank for the students to fill in on their own. Another easy way to differentiate with these coloring sheets is using the complexity of each image as a way of determining who completes which page. I always pass out a variety and my students know "You get what you get, and you don't throw a fit." Also, having a variety makes for a much more interesting display when they're finished!
Printing Tips: I've included two file options- .jpg and .pdf. Please use whichever works best for you. These sheets are designed for printers that require .25" margins. If your printer needs a larger margin, please select "Scale to Fit" when printing to avoid cutting anything off.
If you ever have any problems or questions with any of my files, please contact me so I can try to help! I hope you and your students enjoy this set!
