My students have enjoyed the tactile approach to learning rhythm values, and they have especially liked the challenge of creating their own rhythm patterns in the process. After performing and reading these rhythms, I have challenged their higher order thinking by making relationships between the math equations and measuring cup values. This kinesthetic project having them manipulate the pasta into the corresponding values has helped some students better understand the duration and relationship between 1-beat, 2-beat, 1/2-beat, and more rhythms. The worksheet is aligned to the new Core Music Standards for Creating using standard notation. There are 16 different rhythms for the concentration cards with their matching math equation. There are no rests since the kinesthetic activity will represent sound.
If you download this project, please take the time to rate the quality of the higher order thinking.
