Product Description
Music Substitute (The Woodwind Family) is perfect for musical AND non-musical subs and contains an original story about Oscar the oboe learning to appreciate his family. This 40 minute lesson can be used by music teachers or music substitutes and is a great way to integrate literacy into the music classroom.

It is also “Print and Go” and only requires paper and colored pencils or crayons to implement! You do not have to have taught students any of the information in the lesson prior to having a sub; however, this product would be an excellent way to review the woodwind family instruments of the orchestra. Music Sub Plans (Expanded!)

To begin this lesson, you or your music substitute will display and read the text on four posters containing the following instruments from the woodwind family: clarinet, saxophone, oboe, and flute. The sub will then display a poster titled “Parts of a Story” and will instruct students to listen for information regarding the characters, setting, and plot. He or she will read the original story titled “Woodwind Family Vacation” followed by a short class discussion about the characters, setting, and plot of the story. Lastly, the teacher will pass out worksheets, and students will choose one of the parts of a story (character, setting, or plot) to illustrate using crayons and colored pencils. (Please Note: This story is written out for the substitute to read but is not illustrated. This is because students are required to use their imaginations to illustrate the story themselves.)

Included in this product:

~1 Teacher script that outlines the sequence of the lesson and includes red text for the teacher or substitute to read from
~4 Instrument posters/coloring sheets (instruments include the clarinet, saxophone, oboe, and flute)
~1 “Parts of a Story” poster with short descriptions of the terms character, setting, and plot
~1 Original story titled “Woodwind Family Vacation” about Oscar the oboe learning to appreciate his family (the story takes 4-5 minutes to read)
