Music Symbol Playdough Mats
I use these mats in my Reggio-inspired classroom to combine musical learning with sensory play. Students develop their motor skills and sensory pathways as they squeeze, roll, poke, and shape the playdough into these musical symbols. So while they learn about music, they are also developing pre-writing skills.
The mats make for a very easy center in your early childhood classroom or your music class. They can be done independently at a station, or even as free play. This play will spark the students’ interest and exploration, as well as their creative thinking.
To use the mats, simply print them out and either laminate them or put them into a plastic sleeve. Included are symbols for staff notation, notes and rests, dynamics, meter, and more. I've also included an amazing, long-lasting recipe for homemade play dough.
