Time to play! I love matching games. They are a great strategy for increasing literacy, memory, and concentration skills. This interactive powerpoint game is based on the traditional matching game. The game focuses on the simple musical learning goal of recognizing and naming music symbols and vocabulary. Targeted for ages seven and above.
There are twelve matching boxes per game board. There are six different game boards: Rhythm Notes, Rhythm Rests, Clefs and repeats, Dynamics, Tempo Words, and Articulations. Music symbols are inserted as pictures so they retain even if you don't have the same fonts. To play the game: touch the cards to turn them over. Touch again to recover. Touch the star when you make a match to make the cards disappear. Kids can play this on the smart board or the computer. Level 1, playing the game as an individual on a smart board or computer, can be used with Kindergarten up. For a slightly harder twist, line students up in pairs of two, each pair takes a turn trying to get a match. When they get a match, they are rewarded and go to their seat, where they have to draw the musical symbols on the printable page. This is a great resource if you are using stations, or for a substitute, or for a classroom teacher with no musical training. You can use split screen mode on your computer and have kids play against each other also. Included is a printable version of the cards, print on heavy-duty cardstock and laminate for long-term use. I will use this by making card sets in ziplock baggies for a music game day, and for my low tech substitute bin, but the main idea that sets this resource apart from others that I have seen is the interactive powerpoint animations. Fun! I hope you enjoy!
