Music Walk: Takatiki
A great way to get your students moving and reading rhythm at the same time! Taking a Music Walk is a fun, quick activity for your students to work on their rhythm reading skills.
This Music Walk set includes 36 cards with four beat rhythm phrases containing ta (quarter note), ta-ti (beamed eighth notes), rest, half note, and takatiki (four beamed sixteenth notes).
After printing and cutting the cards out, simply play some fun and energetic music and allow your students to move freely about the room. Similar to musical chairs, pause the music every ten or so seconds so that students can pair up together and take turns reading their cards to their partner. Each student takes a turn speaking the rhythm of their card to their partner, then they switch cards and the music begins again!
More detailed directions and other uses are included in the file and here on my blog: http://ashleysfortheloveofmusic.blogspot.com/2014/12/flashcards.html
