This is something that I put together for a test-teach, but you may want to use it FOR test-teaches, or if you are doing a "One & Done" in a one-day seminar, or maybe even for your class.
The tutorial starts with a quick-right of "what is Music?" It briefly touches on the AABA format of music, which it models by having the students sing "Old MacDonald. Then, it breaks "Old MacDonald" down into measures.
It defines bars, double bars, repeat signs (first endings and second endings), measures, and time signatures.
The culminating activity consists of students singing "Down By the Bay" (the sheet music is provided). Once the students have sung it, split them into groups of 3 or 4 and let them write a verse for "Down By the Bay". Then sing it again and, group by group, have them introduce their newly-written verse into the song.
