This is a Music in Film Curriculum designed for Elementary Learners! These activities are fun, engaging, and age appropriate for young learners to experience one of the most beautiful, artistic, and creative ways music has changed film!
This Music in Film Kids Unit is split into three different sections:
Section One: Character Themes & Dance Charades
Students are shown a cartoon figure/character, and theme music for that character begins to play. Students must in their own creative way dance as the character would, along with the characters theme music.
Section Two: This Music Best Reflects Which Character?
Students are then shown three different characters, and then theme music begins to play. Students can discuss, and also document on their worksheets which character they think the music best reflects. As students listen to each piece of music, they begin to see that music plays a role in reflecting personality traits, professions, culture & more!
Section Three: Based Off This Music, Where Are We?
Students last learn that music can also reflect places, and not just people. Students then engage in a listening activity of different pieces of music, and try and figure where they would be if they heard this music. Students can discuss, and also document on their worksheets where they think the music best reflects where they are.
