This lesson is designed as a group activity for your students. There is no indication in this lesson as to what instruments should be used, because every teacher using this lesson will have different instruments. This lesson is required that you have instruments for your students in your classroom. (Vibraphone, Xylophone, Hand Percussion Instruments etc.)
Lesson begins with an agenda describing for students what they will be doing, and the four step process. They'll also be introduced to several focus questions which relate to how they will fill out their worksheets as they engage in the activities for the day.
1. Students will watch a short movie clip of a scenery in nature.
2 Students in groups will create a piece of music which represents that scenery using the 7 elements of music.
3. Students will present their pieces to one another.
4. Students will fill out the questions on their worksheets which prompts them to analyze & describe their piece of music, and how it used the elements of music in relating to the scenery. To see what the worksheets consist of, click where it says "Preview".
There are 12 clips which are 1 minute long. Students have 3 minute timers to create their piece of music. If you're doing the math and thinking ahead to students presenting and filling out their worksheets you may begin to realize this lesson may last you several classes. Personally I teach 45 minute periods, this lesson lasted me 4 weeks. It almost became an entire unit of itself!
