As music teachers we can sometimes forget that it is important to touch on the art of sound. Students are taken through the journey of creating sound effects for movies. The lesson plan focuses on Jurassic Park which will attract and engage your students for SURE.

Students are first shown a simple movie clip of a fisherman as people in a studio are creating sound effects for all the fisherman's actions. For example, when the video clip shows the fisherman pushing his boat into the ocean, two sound effect artists are splashing water and grinding a wooden board on rocks in a recording studio.

Students are then shown the unimaginable creativity behind creating the sounds of the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, and Jurassic World.
NOTE: In order for the videos in this lesson plan to work, you must have access to internet!

Activity:
Students will re-create sound effects for the "Raptor Kitchen Scene" from the first Jurassic Park movie using any materials either you provide, or that are present in your classroom. Students are provided with the movie scene with no sound, and it is up to them to re-create their own sound.

This is the greatest scene in my opinion for them to re-create! From the dishes falling, the raptors claws tapping the floor as it walks, the running, crawling, heavy breathing, it's bound to get your students thinking creatively! Also gives some of those students in your classroom with a sense of humor a great big window to let out all their comic relief in a creative, fun, productive activity!
