It's one thing to learn about the Revolutionary War, but it's another experience for students to live in it by singing, and marching to the actual music from the day.

This lesson plan is divided into Three Sections

Section 1.
A brief history lesson on the Revolutionary War, which touches on both sides as the students will be learning songs from the American & British sides.

Section 2.
Students will follow a Three step process when learning the songs. First students will listen to the song, second they will sing it with the teacher, and third they will sing it alone.

The songs from the Revolutionary War that are included in this lesson are:
The American Songs
Yankee Doodle
America
Good Old Colony Days

The British Songs
God Save Our King
The British Grenadiers

Section 3.
Students will then learn the Marching Orders that were played on the Snare Drum.

Once students become familiar with what the Drum Rhythm Commands are, they then play the Marching Game!

Students line up in a straight line, and follow the orders such as:
Turn Right
Turn Left
Turn Around
Water Call (Pretend Drink Water)
Sergeant is Coming! (FREEZE)
March Slow (March in place Slowly)
March Fast (March in place Quickly)

The commands in the final slides have been shuffled up to show your students a good time! If they are out of line, or make a mistake, or follow a wrong command, they're out!
