This is a great activity to get your students to find out for themselves how music effects their brains! This Lesson Plan is designed into three sections.

Section 1. Listening Activity
Students will engage is several listening activities, experiencing a timeline of music from Classical, Blues, Jazz, Country, Rock, Funk, and Hip-Hop. Artists included in the listening activities are Beethoven, Muddy Waters, Louis Armstrong, Johnny Cash, Led Zeppelin, James Brown, & Wiz Khalifa

Section 2.Voting
Students will then vote on various Survey Questions about the music they heard such as What emotions they felt, what the music made them want to do, What were the nature of their thoughts, and whether or not they liked it.

Section 3. Results Analysis
Students at this time can visually see the results in front of them from the pie graphs, and can see how music doesn't effect them in certain ways, but in most cases it effects everyone the same way.

Section 4. Influence
Section 4 is one last survey question that asks students which genre of music has the most influence on them. This can lead up to a good discussion on whether or not it is a good or a bad thing that we let artists from that specific genre have such a great influence on our emotions, actions, and thoughts.

I truly believe a lot of the music that kids listen to these days leads them the wrong way. My goal in making this lesson was to inform kids that the music we put in our heads can influence us in a negative way, and we need to be careful sometimes!
