Word sort activity using names of real bands/musical artists with Spanish names from all of the world including Cuba, the US (especially Puerto Rico), Mexico, Spain, Venezuela, Chile, Colombia, and even France. Students will cut out cards to match the real names to their English translations.
This activity could be used at any time during the year with Spanish 1 or 2 (or even higher just for the cultural aspect), but I specifically designed it as a sub plan because it doesn’t require any preparation or Spanish explanation on the part of the teacher. After stressing over sub plans for my own maternity leave, I like thinking about “easy” and “fun” lessons I can leave for a sub who does not know any Spanish!
Page Count includes:
1 page of band names to sort
1 answer key
1 skeleton lesson plan outline for a substitute,
1 how-to page,
1 optional sheet to copy for students to write answers on,
1 optional page of ideas/directions for extension activities to make this into a longer term project or presentation (especially for maternity leave!),
1 sign-up sheet with artist names for the presentation/project extension.
Cover page and credits/thank-you not included in page count.
