This is great practice for students to write notes, do some musical math, and work on time signatures/compositions. Simple instructions for students to create "recipes" using note values as ingredients.
10 recipes are included, with a further step for students to create their own. I used this with my 8th grade choir students. I asked them to write out three of the recipes with note values, then create their own. This took about 3 days of 45 minute classes including going over the first two example slides and brief instruction, writing out countings and determining time signatures for each recipe, then a composition factor where students assign note names, write out their recipes on staff paper, and a technology tie-in that asks students to perform their composition using imovie. This project can be as simple or as complex as you would like depending on how far you take the students through the process. Has rhythms up to 16th notes. Included are answer keys for each recipe showing each ingredient's rhythm per recipe.
