This is a basic handout I created for my students to explore basic un-pitched percussion instruments (egg shakers, rhythm sticks, drums, body percussion etc.) This was an introduction to using these instruments in class and to provide a basic understanding of how to play them. I've used it with grades 1-3 with varying levels of support.
I would hand out one set of instruments to half the class (egg shakers for example) and another set of instruments to the rest of the class (rhythm sticks). Students would independently explore their instrument and once they finished one column they would show me their sheet and I'd switch their instrument. This variation kept the noise down and kept it interesting for students.
This is a half-sheet that's printed twice so it can be cut in half. It is supposed to fit on one page so you may have to change your margin sizes. Feel free to change the questions or alter as needed. Your feedback is welcome! Thanks!
