I integrated music into the fourth grade math class because learning math facts can be challenging, but learning a new song seems to come more naturally. Since most students listen to the radio or to CDs they are familiar with learning the words of a song fairly quickly. I thought that combining this skill with learning a harder skill (math facts) it would be less stress for the students and it would also be a fun activity. Songs usually stick with a person longer so I thought if the students learned their math facts through a song they would have a better chance of remembering their math facts for a longer period. By using this particular song students are rhyming words and they alternate between verse and chorus teaching pattern. I thought pattern was fitting to teach in a math class because math has a lot of patterns and by the fourth grade students have had to work with patterns before.
