Who doesn't love some fun, simple Reader's Theatre! Reader's Theatre is a great way to practice fluency and build reading confidence in students. Sprinkle in some music and you have a super simple activity that your students will eat up!
This reader’s theatre script is based on Aesop’s Fable, The Tortoise and The Hare. It would be best used in grades 1-3.
This script has 9 speaking parts for individuals and a chorus. The chorus can be made up of any number of students that aren’t assigned one of the 9 individual speaking parts.
With younger students, I recommend reviewing the script with them before beginning in order to familiarize them with any new vocabulary.
This script includes 5 short songs sung by the chorus. The songs are sung to tunes that almost all students will be familiar with, such as Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star and The Itsy Bitsy Spider. The words have been changed, so I recommend singing the songs as a group once or twice before beginning.
Enjoy! And be sure to check back often with Miss Music Makes Magic for more musical reader’s theatre!
