What if Cee Lo Green and Green Day got together to record the song "I'll Forget You When September Ends"?
In this quick and easy team-building game, I created "mashups" of the names of popular bands and music artists. Students need to identify the two pop songs that have been mashed together, and then create a mashup of the artist's names. It's a quick, easy and fun activity that encourages students to work together and share knowledge. I've used this as a "sectional-warfare" activity for my high school choirs and they love it. Somehow the altos always seem to win...
I have included 11 mashup puzzles for the students to solve, not including the Cee Lo Green Day example. You can see the first two puzzles by checking out the preview.
Several of the artists and bands are older or a bit obscure, so I would only recommend this game for high school students. I recommend giving the students 3-5 minutes to solve the puzzles without using the internet, and then an additional 2-3 minutes to use their devices and search the web. I then put the answers on my SmartBoard via a PowerPoint slideshow.
Included in this .zip file are copies of the printable worksheet, an answer key, and a PowerPoint slideshow answer key. All files are in Microsoft Office format and PDF format. All Microsoft Office files are fully editable.
If you create some of your own mashups, please share them with me. I'd love to add them to my list!
