Help students master investment types with this engaging mutual fund lesson plan. This file contains a Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation on mutual funds and a mutual fund research activity. I use this lesson for my Personal Finance course. It could also be used in a Banking and Finance or General Business class.
Objectives of the PPT:
Define mutual funds.
Explain why investors buy mutual funds.
Identify types of mutual funds.
Define exchange traded funds.
In this activity students use a website to research various mutual funds. For this assignment, students use the fund name and ticker to research the Net Asset Value, Fund Type, Fee Level, Investment Style, and Asset Allocation.
Following the research segment, students then answer questions about the characteristics of mutual funds, compare mutual funds to individual stocks, explain how a mutual fund makes money, and evaluate the funds they researched.
