This activity is perfect for the start of the school year, or at the beginning of the semester. In order to get to know one another better, students follow the instructions to create a Hawaiian shirt. In addition to writing (or drawing) two things that they do well, their favorite place, two things that they want to learn how to do, etc., learners can decorate the free space on the shirt.
I use a pocket photo printer to print images of my students, which they can peel and stick to the center of the t-shirt. In addition, once they have completed their Aloha shirts, I will have them present their work to other students in a small group or as a whole class (depending on the size of the class and the learners' ages).
The file contains two pages, one sheet explaining the instructions, and another with the actual template. Though this file is in pdf format, I would be happy to email you the two word documents I created separately if you are interested in modifying the instructions. :)
I have used this activity with English language learners of all levels, and including time to take and print pictures, to create the shirts, and to present, I would set aside approximately 45 minutes. Certainly, some students will finish early, and I have extra activities for them to work on while the rest of the class finishes.
