These guided worksheets aid students as they complete a research project about their favorite animal. The final 5-paragraph essay will include details about the animals diet, appearance, habitat, adaptations, and interesting facts.
The worksheets include: KWL chart, page to list sources, graphic organizer for brainstorming ideas, life cycle wheel, proofreading/editing checklist, compare and contrast Venn diagram, and lined paper to write their completed product.
First, the students will use the KWL chart to focus their learning. Next, the students will use the graphic organizer to brainstorm some notes and ideas about their animal's diet, appearance, habitat, adaptations, and facts they find interesting. The students will then take this information and apply them into paragraphs on a graphic organizer for each topic. These graphic organizers have 5 boxes for a topic sentence, 3 details, and a closing sentence. After proofreading and peer editing, the students will be ready to create the final draft of their 5-paragraph research paper.
Once the students have completed their final draft, they can trade their paper with a peer and compare and contrast their animal with another animal.
