Balancing equations is a difficult concept for students to master. This visual, hands-on activity is a great supplement to a math lesson on balancing equations.
Students create a balanced equation using stickers or drawings to fill the boxes on each side of the equal sign. Then, they write a number sentence below the boxes that goes with their representation in the boxes.
When I did this activity with my students, they used 20 stickers on each side of the equal sign, but made sure that each box had a different number of stickers in it.
