"My Chanukah" was purposefully written after I heard a report on NPR (National Public Radio) that I found questionable. Has that ever happened to you...hearing a radio or TV news piece that you questioned? Instead of calling up NPR and interviewing that particular staffer, I decided to take the high road, roll up my sleeves and engage in positive action. That decision resulted in my writing the music (the melody, chords, and piano parts), the lyrics, and arranging audio production for the song I titled, "My Chanukah."
My objective is to share the wonderful historical and religious and fact-based story of Chanukah so that MORE of our students can understand and appreciate it. It has been said that music is the "universal language." By extension, then, music can bond and unite us and enable us to easily cross imaginary barriers toward acceptance, cooperation and respect.
MusicXray, a music services company, has advised me that, already, "My Chanukah," is creating positive attention throughout the professional music industry. I know that you, too, will find that, as a "teachable moment," "My Chanukah" is educational and exciting and fun and simply brimming with feeling and joy.
