My Circulation Graph...aka, How Many Books Have I Checked Out From the School Library? Graph

It has been proven that student achievement increases when students take ownership of their learning and monitor their own learning growth and track their own academic data. This is based on the educational research of Robert Marzano and the leadership criteria in The 7 Habits Highly Effective People for Kids by Stephen Covey.

Use this graph by giving each student in your class this page to add to their Data Notebooks. Last year, I did an action research project in my classroom and determined that students who check out and read more books from the library, perform better on state assessments. There is definitely a correlation. At our school, we have a flex access schedule in the media center, which means that students can visit the library anytime during the week, not just during their regularly scheduled classroom visit, which some classes do not even utilize because students come to the library so often when it is convenient for THEIR learning, not at the convenience of the schedule. This flex access system has increased the overall school circulation by 200%.
