We hope you enjoy using this student dictionary in your classroom. Feel free to use it to meet your needs. This is how we use it:
First, have the students brainstorm 18 words that BEGIN with the letter you are working on. When we introduce X, I tell them to think of 18 words that either BEGIN or END with X.
Then, we talk about what it means to alphabetize words. I teach them how to look at the first letter of the word. If it’s the same, then you move on to the 2nd letter of the word. If those are the same, then you move on to the 3rd letter, and so on.
As a class, we alphabetize the words on the board for their dictionary page.
The students will then copy the words on the board onto their own dictionary page.
You can also let them color in the letter at the top of the page and the border if you would like to.
