This product is designed to be used by students to introduce or review the basic vocabulary and concepts of American Economics at the elementary or middle school level. If you print the first two pages back-to-back, students can fold the paper into thirds making a tri-fold brochure. This is how I use the tri-fold in my classroom:
1. My first step is to have the students complete the term definitions in the glossary. Most of these definitions can be found at the link located on the front cover of the tri-fold. I have also included an answer key for the glossary. The vocabulary students will define include the following:
• producers vs. consumers
• need vs. want
• supply vs. demand
• scarcity vs. choice
• goods vs. services
• opportunity cost
2. When the glossary definitions are completed, students are to illustrate each concept with a real-life situation. I have the students create these one at a time, after discussing the vocabulary word as a class. The illustrations give them a clear visual representation of each of the terms. The way the tri-fold is designed, students are able to visually compare and contrast similar concepts on each folded page.
3. Finally, I allow the students to keep these flyers as a reference material or resource throughout the year. We refer to these key terms frequently in multiple subject areas and students are able to remember each of these terms quite easily! I hope you find this useful!
