Is your favorite athlete the best in his or her sport? Prove it!
For this project, students will first choose their favorite athlete. Then they will choose two factors to focus on that are important to their favorite athletes sport. For example, if their favorite athlete is a basketball player, their two factors could be total points scored and average rebounds scored per game. Once students decide on their favorite athlete and the two factors they want to compare, they will complete the following:
- They will collect data on the two factors for their favorite athlete and 15 other similar athletes.
- They will create three data displays to represent the data. Two stem and leaf plots, two histograms and two box and whisker plots.
- They will write a paragraph explaining how their favorite athlete compares to the other athletes. Students must use specific examples from their data to draw their conclusions.
The project includes organized templates for collecting data and for each graph. The project also includes a checklist for grading. Computer access is need for collecting data.
I hope you enjoy!
