This script was written for three students. It truly is designed as a small center for young students. Almost all words are from the Preschool, Kindergarten, and First Grade Dolch sight word list. All words used are listed on the first page and then the next pages are sight word practice cards students can cut out and practice mastering. (You don't have to use them unless you want.) You can choose to have students practice all the words or just the ones for their part. Once they have mastered most of the words students are ready for the script.
*Please note the picture on this site is not quite accurate. If you will look at the preview you will see that it looks better than the picture shown.
Because students are in first grade or at least on a 1st grade reading level the script is one page - double sided. Most scripts are much longer but students near first grade often do not have the experience or stamina to read a longer script without closer supervision. They will be more successful with a shorter script in their reading center.
The plot is as follows: #1 has a doll that #2 has not seen. #3 has seen it and says it looks funny. #2 wants to know why it looks funny and #1 tells both of them that it is because her mom made the doll when she was little with no help. This is why #1 likes the doll. Her mom will not stop even when she is not good at something. She will keep going until she is better. #1 wants to be like that to.
Currently there are 7 of these scripts but I will be making more. I have two listed for .25 cents so you can get a good look at what I'm offering. Some have a smaller word list and some have a longer one so that students can build stamina. One thing you can do is have all students use the same script as they go through the center or assign a different script to each group.
I write these scripts for small groups to help with fluency. When the group is small, they don't waste time sitting around waiting for their turn and get more time actually practicing. Reader's Theater actually encourages students who are reluctant to read. It is a fun way to get people to practice. You will also notice most of my scripts, except the picture on the first page are in black and white. This makes it easier to print and photocopy without too much ink.
