This script was written for three students. The script was written for first grade students. It was designed as a center for the classroom. Almost all words are from the Preschool, Kindergarten, and First Grade Dolch sight word list. The words are listed on the first page and then the next pages are sight word practice cards students can cut out and practice mastering. You can choose to have students practice all the words or just the ones for their part. Once they have mastered most of the words students are ready for the script.
*Please note the picture on this site is not quite accurate. If you will look at the preview you will see that it looks better than the picture shown.
Because students are in first grade the script is one page - double sided. Most scripts are much longer but students in first grade do not have the experience or stamina to read a longer script without closer supervision. They will be more successful with a shorter script in their reading center.
The plot is as follows: #1 is mad. People will not call him. They do not have the number to call with. #2 and #3 tell him to give the number to kids but #1 does not have the number to give. When asked, #1 says that his mom will not give it to him because he is too little. #2 and #3 say that their mom and dad will not give them their number either. #1 learns that some kids do not have their numbers yet. So #1 will write to kids instead. All of the kids fight over who will be the first to write to others. They decide that they will have to wait and see.
Currently there are 6 of these scripts but I will be making more. This one is free so you can get a good look at what I'm offering. Some have a smaller word list and some have a longer one so that students can build stamina.
I write these scripts for small groups to help with fluency. When the group is small, they don't waste time sitting around waiting for their turn and get more time actually practicing. Reader's Theater actually encourages students who are reluctant to read. It is a fun way to get people to practice. You will also notice most of my scripts, including the picture are in black and white. This makes it easier to print and photocopy without too much ink.
