Students can use this chart to help them self-monitor and evaluate their fluency progress. They read a passage as a cold read on Monday, the teacher times each student for 1 minute. Once that minute is up, students count how many words they read (subtract mistake for older students) and come up with their wpm (words per minute) They write the title and genre of the passage on their chart and make a goal for Friday. Throughout the week they take home to practice and teacher times them on Friday, they indicate if they increased or decreased and if they met their goal. Great way to hold students accountable and to teach them the importance of practice.
