With this emergent reader, you will be able to teach and reinforce the Common Core standard of describing the relationship between illustrations and the text in which they appear (Kinder reading standard #7 - Integration of Knowledge and Ideas).
It is a fun way for students to make their own book and show meaning of the text through easy illustrations or cut and paste shapes.
I teach one page a day. We read the words together, then decide what the words mean. Students need to decipher that the heart is over another shape, or under it. My TK students have enough knowledge of basic shapes by January, that this book is successful for most of them.
It is really fun for them to do. You only need to prep some construction paper shapes - or have your students draw their own!
It's an interactive and fun way for students to be their own author and illustrator! (Kinder standard, too! Knowing the jobs of the author and illustrator!)
