Reading Comprehension/ELA Common Core Aligned
Students color, cut, and then use their bookmarks to find needed information. Each bookmark in this set depicts images related to detectives. Students become “detectives” and find the answers! After modeling how to use the bookmarks the students create questions of their own using the Question and Answer development sheet. Simple and sweet.
These bookmarks address the ELA Common Core Standard under Informational Text for 3rd through 12th grade under Key Ideas and Details. This activity addresses the standards which essentially asks students to explicitly extract answers from the text. Most importantly students gain the skill of finding needed information.
The set includes:
Suggestions and ideas on how to use the “My I Spy Bookmarks”
8 Detective themed bookmarks
1 Question and Answer development sheet
I test drove this with my third grade students and they said they enjoyed coloring, cutting, and looking for the answers. They told me it helped them become better at finding the answers. I also was amazed when they started to make up their own questions using the question and answer development sheet. I hope it can do the same for your students and empower them to become information detectives!
