My “Just Right” voice for School is a social story that teaches students a strategy for regulating their volume and tone. The Social Story explains what a “Just Right”” voice is versus a “Too Shy…” or “TOO ROUGH!” voice, and provides examples. It is best to role play the different voices by repeating the same phrase using all three voices. During role plays, students enjoy hearing the “Too Shy…” or “TOO ROUGH!” voice and then giving the verbal reminder to “try again” or asking, “Can you say that in a “Just Right”” voice please?” Visual cues are also provided that can be laminated and placed on the desk where the student is working. There is also a monitoring form (one for boys and one for girls) that can be used to track and reward progress.
