“My Life as a Plant” is a science-writing task that I have used for my fourth graders. It is a way to get them to complete some research on our science curriculum dealing with plants parts and structure, adaptations, the function of the various parts of a plant/flower, life cycle stages, photosynthesis, and reproduction of plants.
At the same time that students are learning about the science topics, they are also writing creatively, using first person (point of view), and correct grammatical sentences structure and punctuation.
A simple scoring rubric is included. It is designed to allow you to work together with students to identify specific components of grading criteria.
Also included are a couple of pages to make a booklet. Duplicate pages as needed.
NOTE: My students actually make hard-cover books, and we donated them to a project sponsored by Books of Hope for students in Uganda who had few, if any, books to read.
