Please read the note at the end regarding the font.
I have found that my students need to have something in their little hands to help keep them on track while doing centers or when in small groups. The structure of this sheet allows me to work with a new group during each rotation, as well as the whole class. I have left the time slots empty on this copy, but I usually run my day using four 30 minute blocks (whole class to front load any necessary info., then 3 more rotations). I have also chosen to incorporate my in class Accelerated Reading/Quiz time. This could also be a great way to keep the other students working when you are teaching your English Language Learners.
My students really craved this structure and by the end of the first week, they had the routine down better than I did. They knew that if I was working with a small group, then I was unavailable, they remembered to use 6 inch voices and complete the items on their menu. I often times copy what I need for my whole class direct instruction on the back side of the menu, to avoid lost papers (examples: story notes, grammar rules or even a text features graphic organizer).
Recently, I was provided with a support staff person trained in guided reading. I took advantage of this opportunity and plugged in another teacher time for my lowest group. I now have the chance to complete the Literacy Menu block with the extra guided practice that this group truly needs.
There is a space at the bottom of the page for you to post what we call "F.Y.I. NOTES". This is the place I use to inform students of such things, such as upcoming quizzes, tests or due dates.
For younger students, instead of posting the times you can use a timer to alert they of when a new rotation is about to begin.
