I use these emergent readers early in the year during guided reading groups to practice one-to-one correspondence, left to right directionality, and using patterns and pictures clues to help decode unknown words. The book has a cover page and 6 reading pages. After the text pages, there are practice pages included for writing and drawing y words, color words, writing and identifying Y and y and coloring pictures that start with the y sound. You may add some, all, or none of these to the little reader depending on the needs of your class.
These can easily be incorporated into your existing Daily 5 or literacy stations routines. They are perfect to use for Buddy reading or "Read to Self" time.
In addition to practicing color words and the identification, sound, and formation for letter Yy, this book also is great for working on sight words I, see, some, it, and is.
This "Little Reader" is only available in a black and white version. Students color according to the color words.
