This is a great center activity that gives students practice with long vowels. The students will lay out the header cards (a, e, i, o, and u). Next they will read each word and decide what type of vowel sound the word has. If the word has a long vowel sound, the student should place it under the corect heading card. If the word has a short vowel sound, place the card on the side.
Print each page on cardstock and laminate. Place the pieces in an evelope or ziploc bags for easy accessiblity and storage.
Have students select five words and write a sentence for each word.
Students can generate their own list of long vowel words.
