This is a complete packet with all the reading comprehension, responding to text, and language skill activities you could possibly need to teach and explore this fabulous novel.
Includes the following for chapters 7 and 8:
- Pages for literature circles (small groups of students who read the novel together and each complete an assigned role (predictor, summarizer, and connector) or these can be used for all students in a small group to work on collaboratively or for all students in the class to work on independently. A variety of pages are provided- some with a task ONLY and some with a task AND a constructed response question. Use the pages that suit your needs.
- Pages with 4-6 higher order, constructed response questions and space to give written responses. Use in class or for homework as desired.
-Page for students to compare and contrast Tiger's character traits to their own. Encourage use of grade appropriate adjectives and/or encourage students to use a thesaurus to improve their descriptions after their first attempt.
-Leveled question cards- questions of all kinds that you can cut out into cards. They are marked according to difficulty (1 being the easiest and 3 being the most challenging). Use these in small groups or with a whole class to assign specific questions to specific students for them to answer either orally or in writing. You can also use these to have a class competition or small group competitions for points. Detailed instructions for use are included. These are also great as "tickets out the door!!"
-Venn diagrams for students to compare and contrast events and ideas in the chapters.
-Pages for students to choose their favorite quote from Granny and for writing dialogue for what you WISH the characters would have said or what you imagine they wanted to say or were thinking. Responses should be related to events thus far.
-A list of possible constructed response test questions for teacher use on informal or formal assessments.
-A page with excerpts from Chapters 7 and 8 that show examples of figurative language and require students to apply their knowledge of similes, metaphors, idioms, personification, etc. to answer questions.
