This is a project I designed to go along with the book, The Most Magnificent Thing, by Ashley Spires. It's a great way to introduce Design Thinking or Project-Based Learning, and to teach growth mindset. It asks students to interview their classmates, identify a problem that their classmate has (it could be absolutely anything!) and then invent something to solve it. It builds community, creativity, and problem-solving. During the process students will conduct interviews, brainstorm ideas, sketch a prototype, actually build their invention, present it to the class, get feedback, and reflect on the process. It's so much fun to watch students engage in this process. They don't seem to realize how much writing they're doing because they're so excited about their inventions. I originally used this resource with a 1st grade class, but it can easily work for students in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade. Enjoy, and please leave feedback!
