This project has students create timelines for how they celebrated Christmas in the past, how they will celebrate this Christmas, and how they hope to celebrate Christmas in the future. They write and draw pictures of specific memories and traditions.
You can use Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol as an introduction to the project. Reading a version of the book or watching a version of the movie will help students understand the significance of kindness and generosity and how it can be tied into Christmas celebrations. It will also allow students to discuss why change can be positive.
Task cards are included to help students brainstorm some ideas for their timelines. Venn diagrams are also included to help students recognize similarities and differences between how they celebrated when they were younger, how they celebrate now, and how they hope to celebrate in the future.
A checklist for students to make sure they have included everything on their timelines along with an evaluation sheet for grading are also included.
