Product Description
This unit is designed for middle school general music classes, and contains 5 parts.

During the course of this unit, students will reflect on their musical tastes and how it shapes them as an individual. Students will select a song that represents their identity, analyze the song and lyrics, and develop criteria to evaluate a performance of the song. Finally, students will work in small groups with other students who have similar themes in their selected songs, and create an original composition that represents the theme of their chosen song in a different way.

This unit is aligned to the 8th grade Michigan GLCES, but could be modified to meet other National or State Standards, including different grade levels.

This unit includes the Student Booklet, Teacher Booklet, and Teacher Scoring Rubric.

I have included this as a word document so it can be modified to fit your individual program's needs.
