This is great for teaching different types of poetry! This poetry book teaches 8 styles of poetry including:
When teaching the poems to your students, there are pages available where you can write a poem as a class following the poem pattern. For example, when you write an acrostic poem, I included a template for an acrostic poem about grapes. Then, there are templates available where students can make their own grapes to place on the paper. So, they make a poem together as a class with a fun craft to go along with it.
Once you have taught the poem, students can create their own poem on a blank template allowing them to use their own creativity.
I created each poem that you do together as a class to be a type of food or activity so that students can also get a hands-on experience. For instance, when teaching the acrostic poem about grapes - students can eat grapes!
This product includes several different templates and there are blank versions that are EDITABLE so that you can type what you want on it. All you need is PowerPoint in order to edit.
I've tried to include various templates to meet every need - that is why the number of pages in this product is so large.
If you were to create a poetry book for each student, their book would be about 17 pages long. This would be the cover page and 2 poems for each style (one done together using the craftivity example and one done independently).
If you have ANY questions about this product, feel free to ask. My students absolutely loved completing our poetry unit. They thought it was so much fun learning about each style, doing it together, and then trying one on their own.
This packet also includes directions about each type of poem in case you are not sure how to write each one.
There are images included to show examples of student work - not every type of poem is included (4 of the 8). You may use these to reference when creating a poem as a whole class. I used the topics within this packet, and we wrote the poems together as a class.
There are NOT written examples of poems - just templates and ideas that can be used within your classroom. There are photos of examples of poems that you can reference, but they are not individually typed up.
I created this product for a second grade classroom, but it could be used in first or third grade!
Thank you so much and I hope you enjoy this product!
