Thank you for downloading My Reading Dictionary! This is meant to accompany any book that your students might be reading– whether it’s a book read by the class or a book read by an individual student.
This dictionary will start to introduce your students to using context clues. If the student read a word he/she doesn’t know, the student writes that word as an entry into their personal dictionary.
There are 4 parts to every entry:
1) Sentence in the book– the student writes the sentence that the word is in.
2) What do I think this word means– before looking the word up in the dictionary, the student writes down a guess for what the word means.
3) Dictionary definition– the student writes the definition of the word in the dictionary.
4) How I’ll remember this word– the student draws a picture or writes synonyms to help remember the word.
Each page is also set up to encourage studying the words. (Pictured below) The outside half of the page can be folded in, showing only the sentence of the word and the picture or phrase that the student chose to help him/her remember the word.
I hope you enjoy this dictionary!
